Standards, values, and long-term vision

I’ve been reflecting on what’s been driving me.

Early in my career, a lot of my fuel came from lessons learned in contrast.
Watching poor leadership, short-term thinking. Seeing how not to build.

That kind of motivation works. For a while.
It pushes you.
But it’s reactive and it doesn’t last.

Over time, the motives of the high-performing leaders I admire evolved from proving they belonged to changing the game.
⚽️ Sir Alex Ferguson spoke about renewal, setting standards, and building the next team rather than fighting the last battle.
🏀 Phil Jackson focused on purpose and presence, creating environments where people were pulled forward rather than driven by fear or ego.

I’m convinced that sustained excellence comes from being drawn towards something meaningful, not moving away from what once frustrated you.

This year, I’m leaving behind motivation rooted in proving points.
I want our standards, values, and long-term vision to do the pulling.

Looking in the mirror, that feels like a key shift.

What are you choosing to let go of this year?
